I moved to another cube at work yesterday; the row I was in is all being given over to the people who are 'resources in training' since it's right next to the desks where the resources (people who answer questions from and assist the analysts taking calls) sit. I think my new spot is about the only seat on the floor where I can't see any of the scrolling banner displays that show the time and current call volume without turning all the way around (one is directly behind me and another is right behind a support pillar), but that's ok. I think the time is going faster when I'm not looking up at the clock every few minutes.
Andrea is leaving sometime this afternoon so she can be in town on Friday to register her new car. It may be kind of odd sleeping alone, but I often go to bed before she does anyway, so maybe it won't be disturbingly unfamilar. Hey, I even get to sprawl out in the middle of the bad and take all of her space, so that might not be so bad. *grins*
She's packing up and moving a bunch of fragile stuff on this trip; things like framed art, ceramics, and the glass stereo cabinet door, along with whatever else she can fit into an Escort station wagon.
It's good to see stuff moving out; I'm starting to get slightly concerned about the amount of stuff we have yet to move. There's nothing left that won't easily fit into my little trucklet; we took care of all of that with the moving van. It's just that there's a lot of little stuff left. I'll be packing my truck full to the gills tonight in preparation for my own trip out to Wisconsin (I'll probably leave directly from work), but I know it's only going to be another dent in what we have left. But it's ok; we'll get it all sorted out. We have a while.
Speaking of getting things sorted out, Andrea and I spend a while sifting through the mound of stuff that's sitting in our living room. We made visible progress and got about fifteen of the boxes we scavanged yesterday packed full of stuff. Not too bad. Everything that's packed will be going out to the truck today and we'll have three times the floor space we started with and the sorting will proceed that much more quickly later on. We're getting there, slowly.
The weather has been unbelievably nice lately! While we were out getting Chinese for dinner last night (on trade of course), Andrea and I had the windows open to enjoy the beautiful Spring air. On the way home, she even had me detour to Canal Park to take a little walk.
Canal park is right along what was once going to be a shipping canal across the entire state of Michigan: from Lake St. Claire all the way to Lake Michigan. About twenty miles of it were excavated around 1880, and then railroads came through. The canal swiftly became uneconomical and was abandoned. However, a small part of it remains, including one of the original locks!
Andrea had no idea that all of that was there until we stopped by yesterday evening; she just knew that you could see hints of the old canal in places and that there was a small park in the area that she'd never gone to. We didn't have time to go exploring at the time, but now that we know about this little hidden chunk of history (you'd never know that there's anything much back behind the trees that the path meanders into unless you've gotten out of your car and read the signs), we really want to make time to check it out before we leave. Probably after work next week sometime if we can get everything packed up. I want some pictures!
Almost lunch-time. I can't wait to walk over to Einstein and get a bagel. Nummy and cheap!
