I feel like it's useful. I don't think they can be forced to empathize, but given that they have a hateful ideology that manifests, in part, by slapping labels on people against their will, using a purely descriptive term that annoys them points out some of that hypocrisy. At least to an audience; all the TERFs I've met are too thick to get it.
