The Supposed Amazon Boycott
About the meme calling for a one-day Amazon boycott: I suspect this will be about as effective as those calls for one-day gasoline boycotts. That is to say, not at all. Supporting striking workers is great! Buy them a pizza, bring them water, stuff like that. Not buying from Amazon for a day will be a short-lived blip. Passive resistance isn't enough; active resistance is required. A one-day boycott is, I think, even counter-revolutionary in the sense that people feel like they're doing something and have made their contribution while, in fact, there is no real benefit from the action.
But what do I know?
Choosing to stop buying anything from Amazon, at all, ever, until they change their policies might help too. I feel like I should do that myself, but I am not because I am a bad human being and am not living up to my principles. Again.
