Someone just checked this book out of our course reserves section. It's one of those thousand-page doorstops that are big even for med school. "These can go out for four hours at a time, I said, "so you'll have to read pretty fast to get through it."

That kind of tome you are generally looking up something pretty specific- I know big primary historical sources- multi volume things- that I've never read all the way through but which contain vast amounts of useful stuff.
