I have been journaling for a long time here, haven't I? I needed to know the date that my employment started for the unemployment insurance claim I'm filing online, so I just looked back in Livejournal and found my entry about my new job. (It was in May of 2005).

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] wendyzski for her helpful comments on the unemployment process. I looked further into the website and learned that severance income is specifically mentioned as not being a disqualifier from receiving benefits.

I also found, looking at entries from back then, that my writing style is markedly different from then sometimes. Reading over some of my old posts, I found myself thinking that they were rather better put together than some of what I've written these days. I wonder if that's true and, if so, why. Of course, I also haven't written here quite as much as I used to. Don't misunderstand; I still write a lot. But I used to write more. Maybe it's because I throw smaller bits into Facebook or Twitter, and I was blogging years before those mediums existed.

I bought Buddy's pizza for the house yesterday. I haven't had Buddy's in a few years, and it was every bit as good as I remember it. Mmm, that flaky square crust! I'd still like to go to some places like Sala Thai, Cloverleaf, or even Jet's while I'm here. I remember getting pizza from Jet's, [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon and I, and eating it at her ex's place while we were house-sitting for him.

I've been thinking a lot about [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon while I'm out here. I suppose that's not surprising, given that moving in with her was my introduction to Michigan, and that I lived here with her for years. I miss my raccoon sometimes, and I'm glad she's happy and doing well. I wish I could bring her back some food, but I don't think it would keep very well!

I've been missing [livejournal.com profile] danaeris too. I'm very much looking forward to seeing my sweet and wonderful kitty again once I come back to Illinois!

Today, I'm keeping Ceilidh's dad company as I work at the computer with a cat on my lap. I think the next pictures I'm going to post are my Washington DC set. I could work on Detroit, but it makes more sense to finish some from further away. Then I can show them to Ceilidh when we have time to look at travel photos!
