For people who feel like libraries are on the way out due to a change in the way people relate to printed material, I offer this really nifty glimpse at some of the other things that libraries are doing these days. And oddly, for a podcast based in Chicago, they didn't even mention the maker space that was set up for a time in the Harold Washington Library!

I just found a pair Danner boots at a thrift store. I paid $10.50, but I knew they were quality boots. Gore-tex, Vibram soles, full-grain leather, only minor wear. I was thinking I could get $50 or so from Ebay. Looking them up just now, I've found that, new, they're three hundred and thirty-five dollar boots aimed at the professional law enforcement market. Score.

It's too bad they're half a size too small for me; I'd think about keeping them.

The thrift store trip followed Chinese buffet lunch with my brothers and the older of the two's girlfriend. I don't get to see much of her, so it was nice to hang out over mediocre sushi and ice cream. *smiles*

I'm working on getting a few things on their way out of the house before I go back to school work. I hope you'll pardon a few posts on that subject.

First, I have a very large external frame backpack. It's a model that seems to no longer be produced, a Kelty Super Tioga. This is a very large (I think it falls into expedition category) backpack for serious hiking. I used it twice and it's in great shape. If you know anyone who's interested, I'm hoping to get $100 for it, but I might come down a little for a friend. (Shipping on this might be problematic, so it would probably make more sense for local folks.)
