Considering our Options for Buying a Home
Today, we visited four properties for sale with our real estate agent. The first two were condos, and the second one was basically comparable to the first one in most ways, but was not as nice, had a worse floor plan, and was about the same price. It also had a slight roll to the floor that was a little concerning. So that one's out.
We visited a house that we spent all of five minutes in before deciding it had too many problems. Not only was there water damage on the ceiling, but there were actually signs on the wall in the living room warning that the floors may be wet and the owners are not liable for injury. The whole house smelled kind of musty, and I think I saw mold. It must have been vacant for a while now because the vegetation was significantly overgrown in the front compared to the listing picture. I suspect it's going to be a tear down.
In case you're interested, here's the Zillow listing: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/424-Arthur-St-Regina-SK-S4R-4X4/2063196601_zpid/?mmlb=g,0
If you look at the picture, you'll see some kind of sign screwed into the siding to the left of the front door. I'd really been wondering what it said. It's slightly obscured by a young tree now, but it's full of affirmations like "you got this." In retrospect, I wish I'd taken a picture.
The neighborhood was interesting. The house we looked at was a 1919-built bungalow with siding in a very 1950s two-tone pattern, white on top and powder blue on the bottom. Three doors down was another bungalow that I suspect was built by the same builder, more or less the same building but clad in white and mint green. Between them were two *much* newer, larger houses whose architecture I didn't care for.
Then we went to the last unit, a third condo, where we learned that "pets allowed with restrictions" actually means no dogs on the property whatsoever. So that one's out.
