The Illinois state capitol in Springfield is a gorgeous French Renaissance building begun in 1869.

I realized while editing that I don't have any pictures of a full facade of this building. I guess it was the details that really caught my eyes.

I am deeply envious that there are people who get to climb this structure and that I am not one of those people. I mean, what's it there for if not for climbing, right?

This is pretty statuary, even if it looks like the seated woman is about to have a very large book closed on her head.

This one's quite nice too, and I am amused by the woman playing peek-a-boo behind the seal of the state of Illinois.
