They Want Me!!

I've had fantastic news to share since Sunday, but I wanted to make sure I talked to some people personally about it first. It's been hard not to shout about it here, but today I'm finally able to do so.

I have not only been accepted by Syracuse University's geography master's program, but they are offering me a funding package that includes tuition, a living stipend, a research assistantship, and a summer stipend as part of that RA. Funding is guaranteed for two years, contingent on progress.

I'm sure I'll have tons more to say about this in the future, and I'm also waiting to see what offers I receive from other programs. But Syracuse was definitely one of my top choices, so I've been elated over this for days now! One way or another, I will be attending grad school, and pursuing a path that I feel is both relevant to making the world a better place, and that I'm deeply personally invested in.

This is a competitive program in a competitive field. I was fully ready to not be offered funding by any of the programs I applied to. Receiving an offer like this from Syracuse is really one of the best outcomes I could have hoped for to this whole process. And there's more yet to come!

I want to thank everyone who offered me encouragement and support through my leap back into the world of academics. I've gone so much further than I could have imagined when I was sitting at a help desk and daydreaming about what I'd do if I could go back to school and get a degree. Thank you!

([livejournal.com profile] restoman; looks like we'll probably get to meet in person after all! I'm most likely going to attend the Syracuse welcome weekend coming up in March. I'm waiting to hear details about schedule and accommodations and things.)
