Job Application

I sent my second job application off today! I could be a cataloguing librarian in Saskatoon. That would work for me. I'm not convinced I have a chance since I really don't have any experience doing cataloguing, but I learn fast. The description says that it will include reparative description work and decolonization of metadata, and that's personally really interesting and important to me.

When I was in grade school, the school librarian noticed how much I loved to read, and asked me if I wanted to work in the school library. I did - it meant I got to read the newest books when they arrived. And I learned the Dewey Decimal System and how to apply dust-jacket protectors. And I had to shelve the returns, of course.

Are you cool with moving to the West Coast?

I would love to be on the West Coast. Vancouver would be amazing, though BC in general is appealing. Why do you ask?

Moving to a new environment can be stressful. I thought my son would be okay going to grad school in San Francisco. He makes friends easily, and I figured the resilience of youth would help him adapt. Alas, he was so stressed being away from home and away from his fiancee, that he couldn't complete his degree. (At his age, I would have considered it an adventure.) If you think you can handle the stress, go for it.
