I got to drive this weekend. More importantly, because I could drive, I got to see two people who I love and miss very much! While it had been two weeks since I'd seen Danae, I hadn't seen Lisa in something like a month. I feel sad when it's been so long since I've seen someone I'm in a relationship with. They're both just really important to me....
So Juan has now replaced both tie rods and ball joints, as well as my camshaft position sensor. He said that, due to its placement behind the harmonic balancer, and the refusal of the harmonic balancer to come off, he spent more than three hours on just the sensor, which is supposed to be a nice quick thing. Since he's a professional, I'm really glad I didn't try to do it myself. On top of that, on the day that he gave it back to me, he got up at 3 in the morning to drive it around long enough for the computer to do its self-check so he could take it through emissions. Three in the morning These are only a few of the reasons that, when Juan tells me how much he's charging me, I respond with "Are you sure? You don't want more than that?" Three in the morning.
We hung out in his living room for a few hours after I got my car, chatting about cars, things, and thoughts on life. It was good. He has a VW Vanagon now that he showed me. It's so cool. If gas was cheaper, I could really see myself driving around the country in one, photographing things.

On Friday, I packed up my car to drive to Evanston. Danae has a new housemate, E, who's renting her spare room; yay! E is lots of fun, is a boardgamer, and on that
Friday was having a bunch of her friends over for a queer movie night! Regretfully, I spent most of the evening holed up in Danae's bedroom entering data from my SI surveys into a spreadsheet so I could figure out when to run my SI sessions. I did get to come out and chat for a bit before folks left. And it was really nice to snuggle into bed next to Danae and go to sleep.

On Saturday, I drove over to Lisa's place. We didn't do anything remarkable in itself. We did a few errands in my car. We had a dinner of her tasty sweet potato curry. While I read articles on GMOs in Central America and she worked on computer stuff, we intermittently held hands and made comments about our tasks. We decided that I'd gotten through enough work to go visit the zoo tomorrow. Finally, we got into bed. But as mundane as most of the day was, it was wonderful to spend it with her. I've missed her over the last month.
Lisa has a full time job, and while the hours aren't the best, and she's still dealing with some serious financial stress, I was so very relieved to see things getting better for her. I've worried, sometimes a lot.
On Sunday, we drove down to Lincoln Park and spent a great few hours wandering around the zoo. I think it's the third time we've gone and looked for otters together, and this time we finally saw one! After seeing it outside, we also found a building with a glass wall on the interior that looks into the otter pool. Somehow I hadn't been in there before. The otter was much more visible inside, veritably flying around and through the pool. I sat down next to Lisa on the floor in front of the transparency, mesmerized by the way the otter seemed to flow through the water, and by the beauty of the cascade of bubbles that flowed up from his fur each time he breached the surface and dove back down toward the pond floor. I didn't even try to photograph him after a few minutes. He was too fast. I just enjoyed the show.
We had dinner at Noodles and Company. I tried their pan-fried udon for the first time, and even ate the broccoli! Then I drove Lisa home, packed up, and started northward to Wisconsin. It's good to be back home, but I miss my girlfriends both very much already.
Next weekend, there'll be board gaming at Danae's place, and an underground Chicago tour for me! *bounces*

I took a picture of myself on Friday afternoon before driving south. I may over pack a little bit, but I swear I need all of it! It's tougher when school is in session, 'cause I end up bringing all of my school stuff with me.
