The Trend of Good Days Continues; Shopping with my Cabbit
Even though I was running on four hours of sleep yesterday, I got up early for an Easter sale at the Unique thrift store in Rogers Park. Danae, who was on the same sleep schedule as me, got up and came with. I'm glad she did, because we had a fantastic day together!
Browsing with Lisa after dinner yesterday, I saw that Unique had a half-off-everything sale on Saturday, and that they had a couple pairs of jeans that I liked a lot, but didn't want to pay that much for. It turned out that not only did I get the half off, but two pairs were also half-off due to another daily special. I'd been willing to pay $10, but I got them for $5. Nice! I also picked up a cheaper pair of Levi's that I like a lot, but which have a small purple stain on one pocket. So for $2.50, I have a pair of quality, nice-looking jeans that I can do bleach tie-dye on for an acid-washed look and then dye purple. That'll be fun once school is done!

Score! Sadly, a different pair I bought, different maker and same waist size, is just too small. Funny how varied measurements can be.

Anyway, from there, we visited a couple of estate sales. One of them had a vintage Wurlitzer electric organ of a kind that was completely new to me. It had its own separate loudspeaker unit, a nicely-finished wooden cube about three feet on a side. After some Googling, I'm pretty sure that it was a Leslie speaker in its own enclosure attached to the organ. The woman at the estate sale was basically just trying to give it away, and I'm more than a little pained that I neither knew what it was at the time, nor had room to take it. If it is what I think it is, I fervently hope the church member who expressed interest for their building gets it and takes care of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_speaker

Driving away from the second estate sale, we chanced into a game store neither of had known about. It was about two months old according to the staff guy behind the counter; maybe the owner. Called Aw Yeah Games, it's in Skokie near a Yellow Line stop and is a good place. Plenty of room to set up games, and a library of them to explore. We spent much longer than I had an inkling of there, looking at stock and playing test games of both Forbidden Desert and Innovation. At some point we got hungry and visited a nearby Armenian grill where I got a falafel wrap the size of my head for about $4. We will be back. Possibly for a whole day, once I'm done with school. A nearby pancake house would be excellent for brunch, then we could do a whole day of boardgames punctuated with good, cheap Middle-Eastern cuisine. I like the sound of that.
