Politico is one of the only sources, and by far the most frequent one, that I read news from. This is the most poorly constructed sentence I have ever seen in a story there.

"That history meant that a disastrous 2018 election for California Republicans, in which Democrats flipped seven formerly GOP House seats, yielding a once-unimaginable outcome: There is not a single Republican representing Orange County, which lies between Los Angeles and San Diego, in Congress."

The BBC has a list of "things you didn't know about D-Day." Amazingly enough, at least one of them is wrong, or at least misleading and irrelevant. I would have thought they would do better fact-checking. They claim that Hitler was asleep at the time of the invasion and no one dared wake him, so the Nazis got a late start on responding.

Hitler being asleep at the time of the Normandy invasion likely had no real effect on it's success or failure, and it's really unclear whether or not people were afraid to wake him. When I saw that 'fact', it immediately struck me as one of those stories that's just too good to be true, no matter what the source. A discussion of this on Quora is informative.

Bathroom harassment

An article shared on Facebook about more bathroom harassment is making me really angry right now. A woman with short hair and a baseball cap was harassed in a bathroom by someone who told her she was "disgusting" and didn't belong there.

I'm so tired of this shit. And yet It's barely started to come public attention. Some people have been dealing with this most of their lives.

My perspective on this is influenced by my belief that the entire gender spectrum creates and supports institutionalized and unnecessary sets of behaviors. (This is why I identify as agender. Even a spectrum legitimizes its own end points; end points which I see as inherently problematic from a social construction perspective.)

But my perspective is that it's none of your damned business what kind of waste elimination equipment anybody has, and I'm pretty damned pissed off at people who disagree and take it upon themselves to harass and embarrass people. It's not your business. If you're uncomfortable, you can leave. Not make a comment and leave. Not stare pointedly and leave. Just leave.
