A Bit Cold Out There....

I really wanted to bike to school to have the experience of doing so on, potentially, the coldest day of the year. It's -7 F (-21 C) this morning, and that's before the winds. But my congestion has moved into my nose and chest, and I suspect I might not be able to breathe. I'm going to wimp out and take the car. I'm a little embarrassed.

And by the way; basically no voice at all this morning. I walked into the kitchen and croaked a few incomprehensible words to my mother. She asked what I'd said and I could only raise my hands in surrender. I don't think I'll be saying much in class! At least the sore throat is mostly gone.

Creating a More Professional Internet Presence

I've decided to get on Twitter and play around with it a bit since so many professionals and academics use it.
I've avoided and/or ignored it for a long time because I haven't felt like I could have any kind of meaningful communication with my social network when constrained to 140 characters. But perhaps it will prove to be a much more useful tool when used to keep up with people and groups I'm interested in instead.

I created a professionally-focused Skype account too. I think this may be the internet equivalent of Thoreau's "enterprise which requires new clothing."

Children Doing Participatory Urban Planning!

This. This is so cool! Participatory mapping by children in an Indian slum influences urban planners. How cool is this? (Link from Prof. Harvey Miller of OSU's twitter stream.)
