Settling in to Work

stormdogYesterday was my first mostly-free evening this week. Monday evening was eaten entirely by sleeping off a headache. On Tuesday evening I helped Phaedra and her housemate with some furniture moving. Yesterday I actually got to snuggle my partner and play a little Factorio. First, though, I installed the new back wheel on my bike.
I don't know how old my wheels are. I don't think I've ever replaced the front one. The back one was replaced once, but that was before I moved to Michigan and wasn't biking much for a long time. It has at least 10,000 miles on it, had been trued numerous times, and the braking surface was getting thin.
I have a shiny-new Bontrager back wheel now. It's double-wall and with a somewhat more V-shaped cross section (though it's not one of those super-deep racing wheels), and should be a tougher wheel. That'll be especially helpful until I lose the weight I've gained. It will also accept tires as narrow as 23mm. I have 28mm Gatorskins on it now, which were as narrow as my rims would allow. Maybe after the winter I'll replace the front wheel too and get some narrower tires. Before too long, I hope to get my bike stand out to disassemble and clean my brakes. I think the rainy weather has gotten gunk into the arm-mounting posts and the rear ones don't want to easily spring back after use. Just a little cleaning, fine sanding, and some grease and they should be fine. Maybe I should find some waterproof marine grease...
I'm looking forward to biking home this evening for the first time this week. Train and bus are wonderful options, but I've missed my human-powered transportation.
Even though I knew that I was supposed to be clocked in for 8.5 hours per day (lunch included), I had it in my head that I could leave after 8. I feel embarrassed about that, but I'm just staying an extra half-hour yesterday and today and all will be well.
Going to bed at 9 (in an ideal world; usually more like 10 or 10:30 but I'm working on it) and getting up at 5 has been an adjustment, but I honestly like the 7 to 3:30 shift and I hope to keep it.
(And my brother set up an account for me on his server so I can RDP to it and play Fallen London and things that are blocked here. Yay!)
