Oct. 1st, 2018 08:39 amWhen Danae and I went into Target on Saturday, we passed a small dog who was sitting in a stroller in the lobby, attached to it by a leash. When we left about an hour later and had started making plaintive, lonely whines. We'd petted him briefly on the way in, but on the way out we spent ten minutes or so petting him and rubbing his ears and telling him he'd be ok. As we sat with him, an employee came out to check on him too. His people are regular shoppers, he said, and leave him in the lobby for prolonged periods. We all agreed that five or ten minutes is one thing, but an hour-plus is too much, and that we'd all like to have an intense conversation with his people about that. On the other hand, I think about single mothers who work three jobs and get arrested for leaving their children alone for a few minutes to run into a gas station and I feel sympathy. I don't know whether to judge this or not, but I feel bad for the dog.
He was a very cute little dog and I wished I could have stayed with him until his people returned. The fact that an employee cares about him too made me feel better about going.
