Dec. 2nd, 2003 04:26 pmGood mood! I have a temp to perm job starting tomorrow through Kelly services. It's light assembly work on gauges and stuff for cars and Harleys. The hours are great (7A.M. to 3:30 P.M. with 45 min lunch 15 of which are paid), it's full time monday through friday, and after 90 days I may be hired in to the (Union) shop, at which point I'll get better pay and benefits. I'm pretty pleased with the situation. Even if I don't get the permanent position (and I'm greatly hoping I do), I'll still have a job for on to 3 months. Assuming nothing funky happens. Funky things seem to happen relatively frequently with temp agencies, but I can hope. Now I just have to take care of that car insurance issue.
Things sure change in the world of servers while you're away. Or maybe there were just things I never noticed. I saw requests to my server for something called 'robots.txt'. I always used to assume it was something that all the script kiddies were looking for and ignored it. However, after setting up a couple new third level domains for my sweetie's use, I changed my logging settings so I can see client and referrer information so I can see where people are hearing about my dear one's stuff from. Everyone looking for robots.txt is a bot. Apparently it's a file that tells search bots what contents of your server they are allowed to index. Kinda cool. I wrote one up just for fun. http://stormdog.fdns.net/robots.txt. Nothing sensitive in there, just old stuff and file storage that won't do anybody any good to index. It's a lot of fun having referrer information too. I had a hit that I tracked down to a link I posted to my website in an Urban Adventure forum a few months ago. It's fun to look up the people who are looking at my site and seeing who they are.
I mailed a couple of ebay things today. Driving around with the expired plates a piece of dialogue from Star Trek IV flashed through my head. As Saavik, in the Kobyashi Maru simulator, entered the neutral zone, Spock calmly informed her "We are now in violation of treaty.". Let's hope that, unlike Saavik, I won't be caught; at least until I manage to get insurance and tags for my car...
