Jun. 4th, 2004 12:50 amI had to buy a new printer today as a matter of some urgency. I'm not going to get into why right now. I'm sure I will later.
*sigh* Now I don't want to sound ungrateful. It's good to have a working printer. The problems are all stupid little things that I can deal with. There are just a lot of them.
It's an HP Photosmart 7260. I bought it because it was the cheapest thing they had in stock. It's connectivity is through USB 2.0 so I can't use it with my (P Pro 200) server. It's got 4 card reader slots on the front and can print directly from the cards, using it's own onboard programming to bypass dealing with the computer. It's got bells and whistles coming out of it's shiny black and grey tail. In short, it's exactly the sort of hardware I hate.
I detest The HP user interface software. It sticks itself in your task bar, has GREAT BIG WINDOWS that pop up to tell you that it's out of paper, or out of ink, or whatever the hell it's problem is. It has a cutesy little name, the HP print assistant. It's so user friendly that it makes me want to throw up.
But it works. I'll live with it for now.
Does anyone have a decent, reliable, RS-232 interface, plain old inkjet printer that doesn't come with any software that constantly begs for attention from the corner of your eye like one of those homeless guys who tries to get you to let them wash your windshield while you're stopped at a red light? Something like my dearly departed HP Deskjet 550? I'm willing to make a fair offer for one...
