(no subject)
Jun. 21st, 2004 10:29 pmFinally getting around to writing about the good stuff that happened over the weekend. Saturday, after the exam and the computer show and everything else,
wooisme and I went over to visit
chernabog69, who was having friends over for a solstice ritual and blessing of her baby. It was the first organized (well, semi-organized) wiccan/pagan ritual I've taken part in (not counting the chocolate ritual which probably doesn't really count) and it was really special.
The companionship which followed into the night was equally special. My love and I got to meet several fun people and see a really fascinating house. Being inside the living room felt like being inside a giant barrel. In a good way. We talked 'till 11 O' Clock or so about lots of stuff. A conversation about gay 'bear' culture segued into furries (there's a little bit of cross over there as I know from personal experience *waves at
blithwulf*) and we got to introduce several people to an often misunderstood sub-culture of fandom in a hopefully benign way. Or, I should say, Andrea did. I did have a little to say on the subject but I was a little nervous around new people and didn't quite get to say much. S'ok. I'll do better next time.
We started off the next day, Sunday, by going out to a new (to us) flea market with Andrea's mother. It was fairly big and not terribly far away. They had some really good deals on tools and console games. I actually intend to go back for tools sometime. Lots of nice Craftsman stuff cheap! I ended up picking up a 2 ton bottle jack (great for emergency tire repair or popping manhole covers), a string of hematite chevron beads for a necklace, and a Phil Ochs LP. (If you want,
boixboi, I'll make a copy for you once I get a needle for my turntable.)
On our way home, we stopped at a pretty park that Andrea has been intending to show me for some time. It consists of a long, narrow trail system that connectes several small parks along it's length and would make for wonderful biking. Need to get those bikes fixed... We spent a tranquil hour or so hiking about and taking pictures of everything that looked interesting. I have close ups of a snapping turtle that wandered up by the path (the path follows a pretty little river along most of it's length) as well as a dragonfly that stopped on a leaf just long enough for me to sneak up on it and get a macro photo before it flew away. I thanked it as it flew away, of course. We also have a picture of this odd longhaired guy hanging upside down from an I-beam under a highway overpass. There are some real weirdos in Detroit. I got some truly beautiful pictures of my raccoon girl that day too. Ask me to show them to you somtime. I have a CD burner now, I can make copies!
Speaking of that, what I picked up at the Gibralter Trade Center computer show was a Lite-On CD-RW drive. It's rated 2 sheep by the people over at clone.cd. It'll read 96 bit sub-channel data and should be able to write safedisc images as well as lots of other copy-protection schemes. Plus, I can use it to burn MP3 CDs for the walkman I haven't bought yet to take to work with me or to use out on the living room stereo (our DVD player plays MP3s). Fun!
In other news, not only have our downstairs neighbors been evicted as of a week or so ago, our neighbors on the side of us have moved out too! This meant that I got to play Depeche Mode really loudly while cleaning the kitchen while Andrea went out to pick up take out Chinese. It's nice to not have to worry about noise; that's one of the many reasons I greatly look forward to having a house. The downstairs neighbors were apparently bothered on more than one occasion by my playing DDR and by, ahem, other noises.
Anyway, in the midst of said playing of loud music,
tincrash called and I talked to him for a while. I'm not terribly exciting on the phone, I'm sure, so fortunately Andrea came home and took over to prevent an untimely boredom inspired raccoon coma in the Chicagoland area. I'm glad I had a chance to talk to Tin for a bit though. I like him.
This is getting too long and rambly. I should probably get to bed now. Hugs to all my friends and family from a tired German Shepherd Dog!
