I am tired enough that I've been almost nodding off at work and having brief mental conversations with people who weren't there; mostly wedding guests such as my family and
emrldgrrl. In fact, as I was thinking about this at about 4:30 Monday, I nodded off and talked to her briefly about it. It was kind of fun. Work went by quickly not only because of that but also because I was back to reprogrmming phones rather than fixing them. Much better on my wrist too which, despite
foreignlegion having put the bones in it all back mostly where they're supposed to be, still hurts a bit. It is, however, in a mostly usable state now. In fact, today in particular it's been much better, and I am grateful.
I haven't had time to write at length about the weekend, so
wooisme beat me to it. That's probably just as well given my schedule. I'm going to quote bits of her's here and append my own additions.
The ride out was really nice. We were both starved and my blood sugar was super-low after not having eaten all day (It takes a special kind of stupid to forget to eat...), so we ended up at Ponderosa on the way. After gorging ourselves on buffet goodness, we ended up talking non-stop on our way across I-94 and we were there in no time.
The road trip was one of the many really pleasant and thoroughly enjoyable ones I've had with my sweetie. I don't think we stopped talking and rambling for more than ten minutes during the journey. Time goes quickly when you're just enjoying being with your loved ones.
Saturday...
WOOT!!! Up early and trussed up in the parking lot minutes after opening cannon! I left stormdog at main gate and headed through the participant entrance. Apparently, he got accosted with kisses from a stranger before even through the gate (an idiot I had to talk to later about overstepping her bounds as a wench). We met up with crazycatladymel and a number of folks that we hadn't seen in weeks or months. I also got a chance to meet and spend some time with some of imandunewen's non-Rennie friends in the process.
This seems to be a theme at this faire. A similar thing happened on my vist to Silverleaf last year. Plus, the girl from Saturday approached me again on Sunday. I guess the people here just really like dogs. That's probably why they let the greyhounds in too.
It was so nice to see Molly and her company!
I bought a new doublet for Chris at Crimson Chain. It's a greyish blue that complemented his favorite velvet tights.
Andrea is too nice to me. I deeply appreciate her buying that for me though. For the first time, rather than just feeling as though I'm fitting in with my garb, in this beautiful piece I actually feel like I stand out a little.
We went back to the hotel, rounded up my mom, Rob, and Kelly, and headed out to Bilbo's. By sheer coincidence (and the fact that their server couldn't scrape her shit together enough to deliver their bill in a timely manner), we ended up running into emrldgirrl, datahawk, wyldekyttin, and moryssa.
This was way cool! Got to see the Chicago girls not just once, but twice! And they got to meet my family. Dinner was thoroughly wonderful with family and friends all around me. So many people came out to see us! I loved talking to Tim and Jim and geeking with Lara about my plans for a new server. Bob, Alex and Phillip were there, who I get to see far too infrequently. Alex and Phillip look so big now!
Dwarf and George and Rick Soo and his family were all there... It was wonderful.
Andrea's description of the evening after the dinner, and after traipsing around Meijer's (in garb) with her mother), is a short one, and that's probably best. I don't quite have words for it myself. She may have said it best when she described it as 'profound'.
The morning was a whirlwind. Thepiercedrose did a wonderful job with the ceremony that Storm and I wrote. I'm just so incredibly grateful for all of the terrific faemily that helped make this day possible. (boixboi, imandunewen, and markellynch...you were missed, but sometimes circumstances arise. I hope you're feeling better...).
My grandfather is putting together a video of the wedding. I'll probably host it on my server once I get a copy. I'll put up a bunch of pictures too when I get a chance. It was beautiful. I cried. I have a new ring now. It was good.
The rest of the day was filled with silliness. I had a great time goofing around with the Chicago grrrlies, while Chris spent a big chunk of the day with his brothers. All day, we kept running into each other and other faemily...it was just a wonderful day!
Probably the best day at faire I've yet had. We all split up to do various things, but we kept randomly coming together too. I hung around with first Tim, then my parents who I brought to drench a wench (only to discover that Andrea wasn't participating due to the velvet she was wearing), then with Jim and Lara, then with Bob and kids... Way cool. After my family and associated friends left, I found Andrea
and hung around with she and the Chicago girls 'till the end of the day. I so miss all of those people. Not only 'my' group of friends, but 'hers' as well. Through Andrea I've met so many great people! I want to see emrldgrrl, datahawk, moryssa and kyttin much more often.
After we said out goodbyes to the last of our vistors and made our way home, we stopped at Cracker Barrel for food. Mmmmm...good country biscuits and odd looks from all the church folk who noticed my filthy feet during their Sunday dinner.
I am always up for introducing something unexpected into someone else's world. You never know when you will do it for just the right person who really needs it... Dinner was good; I was starving.
*happy sigh* I know I'm forgetting things (please feel free to fill in the blanks). I'm just so happy that the wedding is over and we can get on with the many years of our new life.
Same goes for me. In fact, it would be really cool if all my friends who were there would reply to this with any special memories of the day of their own that they may have. Once again, I just want to thank you all so much for being a part of my life.
