Dec. 2nd, 2006 12:11 pmI may finally break down and install a GUI front end for Apache once I manage to get the thing running again. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it three times now trying to work bugs out, mainly problems with spaces in the path names within httpd.conf. Why they set a default installation path that has spaces in it I won't hazard a guess.
I also forgot that after recreating my domain from scratch, I'm going to have to remove all my computers from the old domain and readd them to the new one, then deal with copying over user profiles. I'm really only worried about making sure it's done right for my mate; if not everything is just like it was on any of my systems, no big loss; I can deal. I've also realized that, since my new domain has the same name as the old one, and the usernames are going to be the same as before, I have to make sure to delete old user profiles on workstations before recreating them or I'll end up with things like [username] and [username.domain] in the same place and then Windows gets all confused, not to mention me. I'm going to have to look into either figuring out how to back up an Active Directory structure or get Symantec Backup Exec working on the big server and start backing up my OS partition of my server to it over the network.
I'll plan this better next time, I swear. All in all, it really hasn't been that bad though. I have the new hard drive config up and running and the server is happy in it's role as a DC and DNS server. Progress is being made! I'm hoping to have HTTP and email functionality up before leaving for Posi's in a couple hours, but that's up in the air right now.
