May. 22nd, 2007 07:49 pmThe bio I put together to introduce myself to those who will be voting for members of the Lakeside Players board of directors, a position that I think I'm hoping I manage to obtain....
I'd just sent it when Andrea pointed out the typo in it (now corrected). Drat.
----------
I have been associated in some capacity with the Lakeside Players for over a decade now, excepting a two-year break while I was living in Michigan. My interest in the organization has always been primarily entwined with the facility they occupy, the Rhode Opera House. I am to a large degree an old theatre house and movie palace enthusiast and am most compelled by theatres of the end of the Vaudevillian era and the beginning of the age of talkies. Among those, I am most enthralled by atmospheric palaces such as the Rhode, and by Rapp and Rapp theaters such as, again the Rhode Opera House. I am always excited about the opportunity to work within the Rhode and do what I can to assist those who are working to keep it bright and active.
I feel that I have valuable input to offer as a member of the Lakeside Players board. Though I don't have a theatrical degree, I did spend a year in the theatre arts program at the University of Wisconsin - Parkside. I have hands on experience in every technical aspect of stage production, from lights to sound to rigging to set work. More importantly, I feel that I would be able to speak from a position of enough technical knowledge to offer important advice and practical insight into organizational-wide decisions relating to the technical aspects of operating a theatrical performance organization. With the renewed concentration on the technical aspects of our venue and on updating and optimizing the resources already available to us, I feel that I can be an asset to the organization when it comes to matters of that nature. I am also, as always, more than willing to expand my horizons into the other facets of producing and supporting live theatre.
Thank you;
Christopher Allen
