Now that I have the computer room all to myself, I want more people back in it!

If I was to host a LAN party this January, would anyone be interested in coming? I probably have room for three or four other people besides myself in the computer room, and we could spread out elsewhere too easily enough by going wireless or stringing a few cables around; we wouldn't have to be limited on the number of people, within reason. I have a couple of extra desktop machines that are available for use too if we can find games to put on them.

And if you were to come to such a thing, what would you want to play? I'm way not up on the latest games, so I don't know what people are playing. Group runs in City of Heroes might be fun, or Civilization Four matches. What else?

I could set up DDR on the Cobalt Flux pad downstairs if there's interest too. Friends of friends would be cool if you know people you think would be fun. Just let me know!

Remember what I said about not being able to install all the Windows updates on my desktop XP box because my volume license key stopped working?

Here are a couple of fantastically useful resources.

Windiz Update: A Firefox plugin that allows you to view and individually install or not install all of the Windows updates that are out there through it's own GUI and it's own patch repository. It does not require an ActiveX control and doesn't verify itself against your Windows install. The license states, though, that if you do not have a legal copy of Windows, you are not allowed to use this tool. I'll leave that to your discretion.

The Windows Update Downloader: Lets you download any or all patches for versions of Windows from 2000 to 2003 server, and archive them on your computer for installation on another computer, or even to be slipstreamed into installation source files (which you can do very easily, I'm told, with a program called nLite, a deployment tool for building custom unattended Windows installations.

Thanks, but no thanks Microsoft. I'll pass on Windows Update and get my patches elsewise. It's been fun.

How is it that I've never listened to Rufus Wainwright before? Wow!

Thanks sweetie.
