Feb. 5th, 2008 09:33 amMy new computer arrived at work.
My requirements were fairly modest as far as processing speed, hard drives space, memory, all of that stuff. But since there was a developer who needed a fast system, they got one for me that matches it so we can have one here and support it a little better. You know, maybe create a Ghost image for it. The one thing that I did really want was support for more than two monitors. Our standard desktop system, the Optiplex 745, would only support two (according to Dell). That's why I got something bigger.
It's a Precision workstation with a Xeon quad core with 4GB of RAM, and dual 320GB drives (which I'm going to RAID since I can't imagine filling up 320GB on a work machine). Way overkill for my role. Guess what it doesn't have, despite my request for that feature being the sole reason I got something other than our standard spec which, though it has half the processing power, memory, and hard drives space, I would have been totally happy with if it could do?
Yeah. We're going to have to order another video card for it. At least this one, Dell says, won't balk at trying to use it.
