I'm at work by myself today since my team lead and [livejournal.com profile] serinthia are both home sick with what seems, judging by how the other people at work are feeling, may very well be flu. I'm managing the incoming tickets all by my lonesome, though I'm happily sending them away to other states when I can. On the plus side, my manager is buying us (and by 'us' I mean he and I since we're the only ones here) pizza for lunch. There were also some really good chocolate cookies over in the other side of the building. So, so sad that Serin couldn't make it in and enjoy the nummies.... *smirks* We always make jokes, when someone's vacation time is coming up, that we're going to use that day to order in pizza or the like. I do hope she's feeling better though. Being sick is no fun.

I found a five piece drumset plus two Sabian cymbals on Craigslist for $125 in West Bent, so I emailed the seller and expressed my interest. We'll see what comes of that. I'm hoping it's still available; it was posted just last night but it's a pretty good deal.

I had a really strange dream about my grandfather. He had written and illustrated a book. I think it was a children's book, but I'm not sure. I remembered more about it this morning, but it's fading. The illustrations were absolutely fantastic. They were not abstract, but very impressionistic, and one of a Metra passenger train is still mostly in my head. I wish I could remember more about all of it, because it was pretty compelling. I've been a little worried about him since I heard he was in the hospital with pneumonia. He's supposed to be out today though, so I'm going to give him a call to see how he's doing.

First, though, I'm going to call the Story Corps guys in Milwaukee and schedule a time to go up there with him this weekend. I've been putting that off long enough; being afraid of it is just stupid. Then while I talk to grandpa, I'll let him know when. His schedule is pretty flexible, he says. I'm looking forward to spending some time with him. I'm really excited about going to the train museum with him once it opens too.

Back to the subject of drums, I think that my obsession is tying in to the touch of synesthesia I have. Not only do I feel like I'm hearing percussion rhythms as I type notes into tickets, but the whole process of fielding incoming emails and incident reports, responding to them, and reassigning or closing them, is somehow overlaying parts of itself onto the mental map I've formed of following a beat by hitting things with a couple of sticks. I had the same effect while I was doing more juggling; any repetitive task I was performing would start triggering parts of my brain associated with juggling. I guess it's difficult to explain. But it's kind of neat.

Hello my Wisconsinite friends (and other political resource scroungers);

I'm trying to find some information online about the people I'll be voting for at the election tomorrow. No, not the presidential candidates; I know plenty about them. I mean the rest of them. Particularly the state supreme court justices, who are going to be holding a pretty damn important office too. Oops; never mind. I was looking at the wrong info online. There aren't going to be any actual people apart from the presidential candidates and the Kenosha mayor on my ballot. Still, it would be nice to know more about the mayoral candidates.

Any help on this? I'll look more thoroughly as I find time between support tickets, or at home tonight, but if anyone can save me the time, that would rock.

And I know, I should have done this earlier. It's hard to keep up to date with everything you're going to be voting on, you know? At least I'm doing better than the guy on LAFFlist who said something about needing to find out when and where to vote after the election for his state was already over and done.... *shakes head*

Oh no; I was too slow! The Story Corps booth in Milwaukee was only there for a year, and left at the end of January. That what I get for letting nervousness win over excitement I suppose.

I should do it anyway. I should ask him the same questions I was going to ask him, and just record it at home. Going somewhere special to do it made it easier though. I'm just so shy about this sort of thing.

Ok. You know what I'll do? I'll do something with him this weekend anyway. Maybe I'll go to the Volo car museum. I've been wanting to go there for a while anyway. Or maybe I can find something else interesting to do. I'll have to look around, but I bet I can think of something. And maybe I can borrow Posi's tape recorder and just record his stories as we drive. That might work.
