Apr. 9th, 2009 11:52 amI'm freaking out a bit less now.
In fact, I feel pretty damn accomplished, even though I didn't actually do anything.
Last night I collected my ScanGauge and some tools, along with a Neon brain that I got from
sabrinageek when I bought the car. I took them with to work on the off chance that, even though that brain didn't fix the same problem last time, it might do something this time.
At lunch,
serinthia and I went out to poke at it. Before changing things around, I figured I'd connect jumper cables to the Neon (Posi and I left the battery a little low trying to start it on Saturday I think) and give it one more try. Perhaps being thus threatened by the idea of a brain transplant, it fired right up. I'm hoping with great gusto that it will do so again when I"m ready to leave today. I let it run and charge while I reattached the air intake tube to the intake manifold, and the air intake thingy (perhaps this is not the technical term?) that goes from the air filter over the engine block.
I'm feeling hugely relieved as I won't have to go car hunting this weekend. I still won't get to do the photography I'd like to do, as I'm going to go to the local Pick 'N Pull to find some sensors, wiring pigtails, and maybe a brain, to try swapping into my Neon to do further troubleshooting. Maybe I'll even grab a steering knuckle with a good bearing. They must be easier to take out than to put in.
For those new to the story, this is the same issue that Sabrina was having with the car when I bought it from her. It's lain quiescent for months, but I don't like the idea of it cropping up on me again when I'm parked somewhere more unpleasant, so we'll see what can be done. I'm very grateful that my car waited for warmer weather to get grumpy, so maybe I can meet it halfway here.
By the way, did I mention that my Neon finally has a name? One of these days I'll have to do a picture post with all my cars, from Clif-Ford the Big Red Truck up through my Neon. My Neon with the dual overhead cam engine necessitating a bump in the hood to fit the air intake under. And since I have a car with a hump, what better name than Igor? (That's pronounced I-gor, with a long 'I'....)
Err, anyway; anyone want to come with to the Pick 'N Pull?
---Oh, as a side note, I created an account at neons.org and posted about the problems with parts not fitting the connectors on my Neon and whether there was somewhere to get parts that fit easily, or adapters, or if I should do what Sabrina did and keep cutting the wiring pigtails from boneyard Neons. I just thought maybe some company had come up with a set of adapters you could buy or something. The first responder said "The previous owner is a smart woman. You should listen to her." I laughed and wrote back "Yes she is."
