Happy car post
Apr. 23rd, 2009 07:35 amWheel bearing replacement, front passenger side: parts and labor: $300
Sway bar bushing replacement, parts and labor: $40
Replacement of bad spring on transmission detent cable: $40
Finding out that the reason your transmission is shifting funny and failing to upshift after a hard acceleration actually has nothing to do with the inner workings of the transmission: priceless.
I picked up the car yesterday from Hessefort (no website or I'd link them). On top of replacing the wheel bearing and making my car sound so much better, they did the sway bar. Now, that I was going to do myself, but no biggie. Since it was in and they had it up, why not. But as I was driving away, I saw an item on the bottom of the receipt that said something about the transmission. Just then, Craig, the owner, and another guy were coming out of the shop so I turned around and asked them about it.
Though I hadn't mentioned the shifting issue, they noticed it when test driving and found that the detent cable was sticking. One replacement spring later and it was solved. I'm just giddy that I don't have any internal transmission issues! And that I have a car I can take places!
This weekend, possibly Friday afternoon (I took a half day to open a new bank account), I'm going to do the brakes in the front (I noticed it needs new pads as I looked at the bearings) and I'm going to drain the trans fluid, put in a new filter, and refill it. Easy preventative stuff, and I want this car to last.
--------
I had a really nice evening involving a photography walk around the beach with
megmoves down by the Kenosha Yacht Club. Plus a catch up session since I hadn't seen her since the Fall! I haven't looked at my pictures yet, but I'll post the good ones once I do. It was a relaxing way to spend a couple hours, and I hope to do more of that sort of thing as the weather warms up.
--------
And finally, this weekend, I'm planning to go out to Rochelle for train watching, possibly with
barton_fender and
akreaveter. This would be Sunday, sometime in the morning. I'm going to bring firewood, picnicy stuff (I have to find a cooler), and a kite, as well as my camera gear. Who wants to come with? I figure I'll spend four or five hours. Maybe less if I get bored; we'll see.
I"m also tenatively planning a photo trip to the feed mill on Saturday, hopefully early morning, but I'm flexible. Anyone interested in that?
