Why can't I upload any pictures to Flickr? I tried to put one up at work today, but it failed. After trying in Chrome, Firefox, and IE, I figured maybe work had blocked Flickr uploads somehow. But I just tried again from home, and I can't do it here either. Maybe it's my computer.

I'd try another one, but I'm too lazy and tired to boot up another machine and copy the file across the network. Instead, I'm going to bed. 'Cause it's late.

I had a really nice time seeing Up again tonight. (Still makes me cry. I don't really see that changing any time. And I still want to see it in 3D.) Not only did [livejournal.com profile] posicat and [livejournal.com profile] nova_wolf show up, but I had [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon, [livejournal.com profile] barton_fender, [livejournal.com profile] farm_cat, and [livejournal.com profile] akreaveter too! It was just so nice to be together with everyone like that. I love my family, both birth and chosen. I'm really lucky. Thank you all for being there.

And prior to the show, we stopped at the Salvation Army across the street ['cause I was dumb and was an hour off on the time of the show] and I found an air purifier similar to the one I already have with a working fan in it. How cool is that! I'm going to see if I can effect a transplant this week, or maybe over the weekend.

My weekend is filling up though. Sunday is a trip to Harvard with Moira for Milk Day. I have to call to see if grandpa still wants to go. And on Saturday, I'm hoping to do some exploring again. Must call or IM [livejournal.com profile] jimcyl tomorrow to see it he can go then....

Ok, maybe just the fancy uploader isn't working. The basic one behaved just fine. And with that, here's a picture for you.

The old calliope engine

At the end of the Streets of Yesterday section of The House on the Rock stands this traction engine, matched to a nearby calliope.

Given the nature of the house and it's contents, I can't say for sure how much of either of them is vintage and authentic, and how much might be a construction or an imagining.

But in either case, they are beautiful, and thought-provoking. Just as I'd always wanted to hear a Victrola play, I'd drive a long way for a chance to hear a real, steam-driven calliope. I've always imagined condensing water pouring down around them like rain, and the sun casting rainbows in the air over their pipes.

And now, to bed. Tomorrow's another day....

(Oh look! I found a video of the calliope on the Delta Queen being played.

That's just so neat....)
