(no subject)

Today I'm working on cleaning the car out, doing laundry, and getting bits and things together for the trip. I have also set up the new-to-me dehumidifier in the basement (works great!) and given barton_fender a ride to a battery store. It sounds like the raccoon-girl and I may just possibly be going out to get some ice cream. She and I walked over to a garage sale (with lots of interesting books!) and she mentioned on the way home that she wanted some. My dad, by coincidence, offered to buy me some too on the way back from the store too, but I declined. But...the idea keeps growing on me. I think I'd rather have a shake though....

This is my sweet, loving dog, Kuma the wonder-Akita, sitting in a patch of daisies at the site of the Quincy No.2 mine in Michigan's Keweeanu Peninsula.

We really wore him out on all the walks around various places; the poor thing was having trouble getting into the car or up the stairs at the hotel. I did a bit of carrying our old man around on this trip. But seeing him so happy to be somewhere new and with his people was worth the effort.

I haven't played Rock Band in a while, and I haven't had room to set up my drum set in a while. (I'm planning to work on that as I progress with getting stuff out of the house.) But as I'm doing more balancing of the checking accounts here tonight and listening to music from the Rock Band soundtrack, I'm thinking again about all these bands that I'd never listened to until the game. Crooked X. The Beastie Boys. Nine Inch Nails. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Hole. Fall Out Boy. Just tons of good stuff.

While I'm on the subject of music, I'm trying to decide what to put in the car on my trip. I have a twelve disc changer in it. It's currently loaded with:

3 CDs of world music that looked interesting at the Goodwill. Unfortunately they're not, and they'll come out.
Fur - Blitzen Trapper
Everything That Happens Will Happen Today - David Byrne and Brian Eno
Sondheim, Etc - Bernadette Peters
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Apollo 18 - They Might Be Giants
Factory Showroom - They Might Be Giants
Flood - They Might Be Giants

That leaves me with 7 slots. A few will be things I know well and I can sing loudly along with to stay awake. *grins* Those will probably be:

A Few Small Repairs - Shawn Colvin (I love this whole album so much.)
Surfacing - Sarah McLachlin
God Shuffled His Feet - Crash Test Dummies
A Worm's Life - Crash Test Dummies

I'm trying to decide what to put in the last three slots. I could always do more They Might Be Giants, but more variety might be good too.

I'm thinking K.D. Lang's Hymns of the 49th Parallel for one. The Trinity Sessions by The Cowboy Junkies might be good, but it's a little too quiet, and not quite as sing-alongable, if that's a word.

I definitely need to get my copy of Nevermind back from a friend of akreaveter's before we go, and that will be in there. Just one more to decide on. Though I may swap Ms. Peters out too. Beautiful music, but again, not necessarily sing-along-and-stay-active music. Or maybe not. My dad teaches theatre; maybe I can get him to sing along. *grins*

I could always make a mix disc or two too. I can keep Bernedette in there with Making Love Alone and Unexpected Song, both of which are full of win and awesome but in, uh, rather different ways.

Maybe I'll go with something tried and true and round it out with Revolver or Abbey Road.

In going through my mail, I found a reminder from the veterinarian in town about immunizations for Kuma.

I hate when I get those. For so long, we hadn't been able to get preventative care for our animals because of money issues. Finally we'd settled into a situation where things were more stable, and I had a workable budget and had enough of a handle on our situation that we could reasonably talk about budgeting these things things. And then Moiracoon lost her job.

I hate getting those notices because they have the pictures of the scared looking dogs and cats on the card and they talk about how your pets could be at risk for all these things, and I don't want the dogs to be scared, and I feel like a horrible person for not having preventative care done. I feel like I don't deserve to have animals that depend on me. I don't know why it's bothering me so much tonight. Maybe it's because I know Kuma is getting older and it's so important to me to make sure he's happy, but I just want to cry that I can't do these things for him.

And I was feeling so upbeat before....
