Does it mean I'm a little too obsessive if it's driving me nuts that I can't accurately location-tag all my photos?

I took this one in lower Manhattan. It's in the Chinatown area, north of Foley Square near City Hall and the New York Supreme Court building. I know exactly what area it was taken in. But I don't know exactly, so I can't location-tag it. Because you can't just mark it lower Manhattan. You have to click and drag it onto the spot you shot it. And I just don't know. Argh.

Sometimes, I actually think the camera add-on you can get that will automatically put GPS information into your photos geo-tags as you shoot would be awesome. It's expensive, sticks out from the camera body, and using it means you have this antenna reaching up from your gear as you shoot, so I'd probably never use it anyway. But sometimes I really wish I had one!

Of course it wouldn't have worked for any of the subway pictures I took anyway. Meh.

For morning amusement:

And here's just my brother making lewd gestures at a giant metal balloon animal stayin' classy.

After toying with the idea for a while and talking to [livejournal.com profile] rileybear67 about it a bit yesterday, I did a quick search on Ebay for a body cap (what you put on the camera when you don't have a lens on it) for my 20D. I found someone selling a body cap plus a rear lens cap (which I'm missing one of anyway) for a whopping two dollars and free shipping.

I snagged it, and once I get the body cap, I'm going to use a very small drill bit on it to create a pinhole camera. I have no idea how pictures will come out, but for two bucks, it's totally worth playing with!

I've also realized that, though I feel a little embarrassed about spending money on photo gear sometimes, for me it kind of takes the place of a lot of things other people spend money on. I don't have cable or satellite television (not that I'd use it if I did). I don't have any of the newest game systems or computer games. I don't have a flatscreen TV. I don't have any fancy-shmancy computer parts, and the computers I do have I scrounged for free. My car is fifteen years old and paid off.

Instead of these things, I have an occasional camera indulgence. I think that's ok.

When I have pinhole camera pictures, you'll see them here!
