stormdog: (Tawas dog)
I just ordered a Sony ICD-PX720 to start out with my interviewing project. It was a little pricier than I was hoping for, but all the $20 to $30 ones either recorded only in a proprietary format, or didn't have a USB interface, or or didn't have much memory, or didn't have a microphone jack, or something.

Seeing as I was already spending $50, I was half tempted to just go for it and order a Tascam DR-07 which is more of a prosumer unit with a memory card slot and abilty for raw WAV recording, but I'm going to hold off on that until I get more into this. Maybe I'll be able to resell the Sony. Though given that it's only low end consumer hardware, probably not.

I already have a cheap little Labtec AM-222 microphone that I'm going to try using with it. I think I've got another, possibly better, microphone somewhere too; hopefully it will turn up during the move.

The recorder should get here next week, at which point [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon will be my first victim interviewee.

This evening, I'm going to pack all my scrap aluminum (hard drive shells mostly) into my car to drop off tomorrow morning. I'm also going to disassemble that server rack and bring it too. Last chance; does anybody want a six foot tall, two post rack with some shelves?

Then after I get my ten or fifteen bucks from the scrap metal dealer, I'll get the boxes I've packed over the last couple months out of the computer room closet and into my car. Moira and I are going to sign the lease on our apartment tomorrow at noon, at which point we'll have keys and can start moving our possessions. I've never actually seen the apartment myself at this point, so I'm excited about that. This is much like when my parents moved to Wisconsin, and my dad told my mom that she could decide on the house and he'd go with whatever she wanted. My primary concerns were all things that could, and have, been addressed without any need to actually see the space. I am, though, going to take measurements while we're there and start playing with furniture arranging ideas.

---------------

Oops; the lease signing is at nine. I guess I don't have time to drop off aluminum. Well, maybe after we get back.
