I spent Saturday afternoon and evening in Chicago with [livejournal.com profile] cranberrynomiko and a couple other folks playing Rock Band, Arkham Horror, and a really nifty home-brew sci-fi version of Empire Builder.

Rock Band could have been better had I actually brought a memory card for it and all the materials required for four people to play. In the words of the great Bullwinkle, next time for sure! Arkham Horror was much fun; it's the second time I've played, and I want even more to buy a copy. It's a pricy game, but much much fun. And I had a great time with the railroad game too. Thanks to everyone for playing and sharing games with me!

On the way there, the oil pressure light blinked on. I got out at the next exit and located some oil. I added two quarts to get the level up to the safe zone. When I left later that evening, I'd made it a little bit down the highway when the light came on again, accompanied by some disturbing noises. I got off the highway again, accompanying my search for a gas station with an inner monologue that went something like "crap crap crap crap crapcrapcrap crap!"

I added three more quarts to the car (and a bagel and mini-box of junior mints to my stomach) and looked under the car. All seemed well, so I started it up. No gouts of smoke out of the tailpipe, but I looked under the front again and found a near-constant trickle of oil splashing down from the engine. Not good.

I bought two more quarts to take with and got on the road. I called Moira to let her know I was on the way back and let her know what was up. I made it as far as Regency Mall before I had to add more oil; that's about a 20 to 25 miles a quart. It's a relief it only leaks when running or I'd be out of oil entirely every morning.

I snuggled up with my sick raccoon for the night (I do hope you're feeling better Dear One) and drove back to Kenosha in the morning, after adding another quart. I got the car up on ramps in my parents' driveway as all my tools are over there. All the oil is coming from a corner of the oil pan seal. I called Juan who thinks it may be the gasket on the oil filter housing. I'm going to try to clean it all up later this week and get a better look. For now, I'm going to ignore it and go to the Mother's Day get-together at my grandparents' house. I can at least drive it to the Kenosha train station and back this week 'till it's fixed.

Of course, I bought my last ten-ride train ticket for Waukegan, so I may have to buy Kenosha to waukegan tickets and go the rest of the way on my ten ride. But I can live with that.

Also, I'm more annoyed than usual with Microsoft for forcing the computer I have running drive wiping software to reboot in the middle of a nine or ten hour process that I now have to repeat because I don't know if it finished. Bite me Microsoft! Thanks!

It's ok. I now have access to my computer with native SATA interfaces, so I can stop trying to use DBAN through USB to SATA adapters (which seem to make it throw errors).
