Aug. 19th, 2010 02:52 pmI was feeling kind of down this morning, and work just seems to drag on me lately. Now that I'm pretty sure I know what I want to do as far as a career and that this isn't it, it's hard to be motivated at a place that's difficult to deal with even during good times.
During the morning, I got a little boost when someone told me how nice one of my SS Badger pictures was and added it to a group on Flickr. I was having one of those spans that all people who put creative efforts out on display get I suppose where I wondered whether my stuff was any good, and whether it was worth all the time and travel just to put mediocre snapshots up to be glanced at and passed on from. (I know that's not the case. My stuff goes from bad [I try not to post any of those] to pretty decent.) It was nice to have a little unsolicited bump.
But even better than that was hearing the news just a few minutes ago that my friend
red_ceilidh has been offered a full time job! I'm so happy for you Ceilidh! *bounces and wags* Congratulations! I can think of few people as deserving. I knew it would work out for you eventually; life seems to do that.

Yesterday, I drove up to Gurnee for my appointment. I got there about five minutes prior and filled out some of my paperwork in the exam room, but it was ok. I liked Dr. Arroyo a lot; she was pleasant and personable and got right down to work without seeming brusque. She also has a great big jug (Really! It looked like an old ceramic moonshine jug, but much bigger!) of liquid nitrogen in her office. How cool is that! Apparently my skin is in pretty good shape. Freezing was applied to the proper parts, and she sent me home with a prescription to keep applying Compound W and covering it with duct tape for a few weeks to make sure they're all gone. How 'bout that? I've now been prescribed duct tape. It really does hold the universe together.
After that, I drove back to the apartment and took the El downtown to meed my dad,
barton_fender, for soup at Watertower Place. There's a $8 all you can eat deal which I took full advantage of. Crab and shrimp bisque, clam chowder, tortellini soup, lemon and chicken, then one more bowl of the yummy yummy bisque. The two of us went back to Rogers Park so I could show him my place, and then I drove him to the Metra station to get back to Kenosha.
He was in Chicago on a hunt for his birth certificate. That's quite a story in itself, so I may tell it in a separate entry. In the meantime, here's an SS Badger picture. Or more precisely, a picture of her dock at Manitowoc (that's her hull on the right) where I spied a really wonderful place for a bird nest!
