May. 26th, 2011 03:05 pmHow's my Japanese (日本語) class going? This is on page 48 of my kanji textbook. It's a little first-person story about a university student (大学生) who goes on a trip with his class. It uses a good selection of the kanji we've gone through so far in the book. And I can read it. That feels so spiffy!
私は日本大学生です。専門は体育です。十月九日にタイからきました。月曜日から金曜日まで日本語のクラスでべんきょうします。私は日本語が好きです。先週の土曜日に私たちは田中先生と山へいきました。いろりろな学生がいっしょにいきました。男子学生と女子学生が三人ずつでした。私たちは岩田さんの車でいきました。岩田さんは日本人の男の人です。一時間ぐらいあるいて大きい森へいきました。そして、小さい川のちかくで休みました。その川の水はとてもきれいでした。

My roommate has a couple friends staying over who speak Finnish. The first arrived yesterday, and I just gave her a ride to a nearby El station to pick up the second person, who'll be staying with her tonight. I love having people speaking in another language around; it makes me happy. It makes me feel kind of multi-cultural I suppose. I had a very nice time watching Castle in the Sky last night withlisagems over at her place. We made some awesomely nummy garlic bread and spicy spaghetti together too. It was interesting how, especially at the beginning, it reminded me of Steamboy. Not to mention the way all the mines and steam-age looking machinery made me think of the Keweenaw Peninsula and copper country. I miss going up there; I hope I can do it again this year.

This past weekend was great! Danae and I spent most of it together, whether going out around the area or watching some TV shows, or lying in bed together listening to audio books. On Monday I went to game night as usual and actually won a game of Power Grid before getting to step 3! And after other folks who know the game well were saying that, at the rate things were going, it would take 'till midnight to finish. Surprise! She and I tried out a big sushi and Japanese food buffet too. It was...decent. I'd be more than happy to go again. Danae, who's a little pickier than I am, wants to come back, but on a weekend when they're busier and the turnover time is lower.

I'm up to the beginning of Small Favor, the latest of the Desden Files books I'm reading. I have a feeling, and this is completely a gut instinct, that Thomas touched the coin he was handling in the beginning of the book. We'll see if it turns out that that's the case.

I'm going to a birthday party for one of Danae's housemates this Friday, and Danae and I are planning to spend at least one night in the city this week too. I'm looking forward, as always, to more of her wonderful company.
