This past weekend was the first one that I'd decided not to drive down to Chicago during in the hope of saving money on gas. I'd decided I'd start driving down there every other weekend instead. As it turned out, I made it down anyway. My dad and a family friend who's staying at the house this month wanted to go down to Microcenter in Chicago, so I hitched a ride and they dropped me off at the hotel that Danae's parents were staying at. That was quite nice of them!

Danae and her mother were doing a lot of work with the designer at the renovation company she's contracted with. I decided to stay at her place and edit photos during that process. I also took a nice two hour walk around Evanston, seeing the Lake Michigan shore at Church Street and a few blocks south, including an awesome dog beach. I walked by the Evanston Historical Society building, but didn't hang around in the sun waiting for it to open in twenty minutes. I ogled a lot of very expensive houses, browsed through an outdoor goods store, and went back to her place. I'm looking forward to getting to know Evanston a little bit better since I'll likely be there a lot.

Danae's parents were very sweet and bought the both of us dinner three or four times while they were visiting. I'm not really eating out at all these days, with the exception of occasional uses of Groupons that Lisa has bought which make the cost near that of eating in anyway. It was a nice change from the usual, and I appreciate them making the gesture.

On Sunday evening, my parents drove down from Kenosha to meet Danae and her parents and I at Danae's condo. They met in person for the first time over a wonderful dinner that her mother made. Everybody got along really well, and Danae's dad and my mom both stuck to suggestions that they not talk about climate change or peak oil. They have diametrically opposed positions on those issues, you see, and while I think they might have had an interesting conversation about it, it probably would have taken up a huge chunk of the evening and Danae and I both thought it might best be saved for another time. *grins*

I feel a bit bad about not having been over at Lisa's place for her birthday, but we did have a fun sort of pre-birthday day the weekend before. Sometime last year, I found old movie tickets that I'd been given by work for the anniversary of my employment three or four years ago. I mentioned to Lisa at the time that there was no expiration date and that since there were theatres near her they were good for, maybe we ought to try using them. To my surprise, when we finally did, they still worked! She and I saw Brave, and I quite enjoyed it.

Today I'm back to working at the Parkside help desk and planning for my trip on the 26th. I'm putting an itinerary together and will probably post it here once I'm done.

I also really want to start posting here more. I realize I'm missing a lot of just day-to-day stuff that I used to really enjoy writing about and going back to later on. I'm going to try to start posting little things every other day or so just to remember the people I've been seeing and what's going on in my world.
