Sep. 19th, 2012 08:17 amI really wish I had more time to edit and post pictures. But here's one before I dash off to school.
Visiting the lab and meeting a Flickr friend for the first time, were great! I'll try and write about it more later.

It's been a while since I've had time for Flickr. School is eating my brain, and I feel a little bad about that.
I've realized lately that I like pictures that humanize things that it may be hard to feel a connection to. Here, on various equipment sitting on a rack, are a collection of repair tags. They have information about what fault is occurring in the piece and often a note from the person who completed the repair.
This made me think of all the people who put time and effort into keeping the bones of high-tech experiments running. Though endless rooms and corridors of machinery may appear cold or distant, for everything that exists at Argonne and other labs, the dedication and energy of people are behind it.

Sep. 19th, 2012 06:49 pmYay! I'll be seeing and photographing the inside of the 1927-built Kenosha Theatre this Saturday at nine in the morning! *bounces* One of the gentlemen involved in the theatre and it's restoration does some research here on campus and I've been talking to him off and on. Our schedules are going to match up this weekend!
I have school work to do, but I can't miss this chance.

Sep. 19th, 2012 08:28 pmThis explains some of the reasons that Democrats are locked into the same economic system as Republicans and are unable to step outside of the status quo. It's very reminiscent of some of what I read in Zinn's People's History. Though I still feel the Democrats are different from, and a better choice than, the Republicans, neither party is able to escape the paradigm of the current system.
Though I think Zinn would argue that those in power in the Democratic party are just fine with the status quo. This author gives them a little more credit.

I have most of two pages of history essay put together. I have a few questions to ask the professor about formatting and things tomorrow. And on Friday, another six or seven hours in the archives to fill things out and perhaps check citations if I need to.
