You know what would be awesome? A way to open up a folder full of images in thumbnail vew and then be able to move the thumbnails around freely relative to each other. It would help me decide which of a group of images that I've culled from a larger set as post-worthy I actually want to edit and post, and which are too repetitive or not as good as similar photos. Any photographers or image people know how to do something like that?

Oh, hey; Windows has these cool little option called "auto-arrange" that I can uncheck. shakes head I've worked in IT for years. I've done the same thing on my desktop. Yet I never thought about doing it in a folder.

I love the way Dell describes drivers and software on their support downloads pages. They're so informative. What am I downloading? "Dell driver". What hardware is it for? "Dell device." Gee, thanks.

#overlyhonestresearchmethods: Average age of observed patrons was 48. But this number may not be entirely reliable as at least one researcher (myself) is pretty crap at judging ages by observation.

As it turns out, it wasn't my onboard NIC freaking out; it was the 1000-base switch I've been using for years now. I should have tried swapping that out first, but I hadn't seen any problems on other devices connected to it until today. The only other device on it is my print server, and I don't print very often. But I've now swapped it out with an old 100-base switch I had sitting around and all is well. Thanks for the offers of replacement NICS anyway!

I tried every driver listed under this laptop on the Dell support site, both under network and communications. Then I tried a couple other drivers that people on various forums suggested as working with this model, and those didn't work either. Finally, I opened up the case and got the Intel model number off of the mini-PCI card and downloaded the driver directly from Intel. *That* worked!

Now just two more pieces of hardware to figure out what the heck they are. We have a "Broadcom USH" and a "PCI serial port". Whee!

I just saw a referral to my Flickr page from this site. I just played around a bit with it and it's really slick! It lets you select a small chunk of map and see all the Flickr photos geotagged at that location. I think it'll be great for seeing what other people are finding interesting either near home, or at places you plan to visit.
