stormdog: (sleep)
I was going to Evanston to visit [livejournal.com profile] danaeris this weekend. But I talked to Super-mechanic Juan earlier today and he has time this weekend to look at my car. That has to take priority, unfortunately. On the other hand, I've been wondering whether it make sense to drive down and back when I also want to be working hard on school work. So I think I'm just going to get up early tomorrow, buy parts, and hang out at Juan's place reading Decade of Nightmares while he does things to my car.

It would be nice to have less deafening exhaust for my trip to St. Louis with three other anthro students in April!

I had a wonderful time watching movies at the Anthro Soc movie party tonight. The second one, Wolf Hound, was a Russian sword-and-sorcery flick that was in the category of so bad it's good. I kind of want to share it with more people.
It was also really nice to be social with other students and my professor. They're good people.

I need to get up early to start on car and school stuff. G'night. *yawns*

I walked over to the auto parts store earlier today to buy a distributor cap and rotor. But I forgot the O2 sensor I was supposed to get. I don't object to another excuse to get away from this book for a bit and take a walk again. I do love the teasing hints at Spring, but I can't wait for even warmer weather.

I love the way Super-mechanic Juan fixes cars. I really do.

My exhaust had broken at the point where the pipe connects to the resonator. At work today, he fabricated a connector that went over the broken pipe end one one side, and over the entire end of the resonator, broken pipe and all, on the other side. After using his awesome hand-held band saw to cut the heat shield off the top of the resonator, he just connected it to the pipe with his custom-built coupler and torqued in on good and tight with a couple of u-brackets.

Percy the Swift may also stop revving his engine up and down after Juan replaced the PCV valve, which he thinks failed open, causing a big vacuum leak. He plugged off my idle control motor, which was also misbehaving. And he recrimped the connectors on my cheap-ass spark plug wires, which was possibly causing a misfire. He's going to replace the distributor cap and rotor tomorrow and bring my car back over to me all fixed up for my trip to St. Louis.

I'm hugely lucky to have a friend who is willing to do these things for me. I bought he and his wife dinner, which is really the least I could do even beyond paying him for his work. He's fantastic.
