stormdog: (floyd)
This so called "worst craft idea ever" (it's someone cutting up books to make something) makes me think of people who make crafts with things like keys from old typewriters for instance. For that matter, it makes me think of the offer I made on my various social media platforms earlier to provide old copies of US Census volumes for people to make cut paper art or booksafes.

Seeing books cut up causes a visceral negative response in me, too. At the same time, I've become increasingly aware of the transitory nature of material culture, and I'm not going to say that people who do things like this are doing something immoral or otherwise "wrong". That's a far more complex value judgement than I feel comfortable making.

(Ten years ago, I would have been shocked to think that I could say something like that. I hope that I am always capable of significant change as a person. Whatever direction that change goes in, I think one of the most important things a person can do is to be able to incorporate new knowledge and ideas and change.)

I think that I just realized that I have to work until 1:00 tonight for final exam hours at the computer lab. This day is going to be rather longer than I expected.

I should have brought some of the leftover doughnuts from my meeting this morning.
