I worked on a report for a few hours, then went up to Racine for a birthday party for [livejournal.com profile] foreign_legion. I saw a number of people there I don't see often, had good food made largely by Der Zwerg, and had a fun time talking and playing board games.

After getting back, [livejournal.com profile] akreaveter and my dad and I all watched the first Indiana Jones movie as part of my plan to indoctrinate my brother. That was a really good time both because I love introducing people to movies I really like (there aren't very many!), and because of the greatly expanded historical and professional context I have to put the movie inside of since the last time I watched it. It must have been about ten years or so.

Both as an aspiring anthropologist and simply as a responsible adult, I'm kind of horrified at some of the stuff Jones does in the name of protecting pieces of history. I guess that kid of stuff was often what passed for archaeology in the early days, but as Indy ran out of that temple with the golden idol, I looked over at Tim and said "Holy crap. Indiana Jones is just a looter."

It feels so good to have a little free time....

This is proof that my ex and I had an amicable parting of ways. She totally could have kept Joel and the bots as hostages. *laughs*

I got this mug probably back in the mid '90s when I was an MST3K fan club member.

Poor Gypsy; she so often misses the spotlight. She's on Crow's right, out of view from this vantage point.

Bicycling!

I'm playing with the idea of trying to do a picture-a-day for a year like I've seen some other folks do. But it's such a hassle to haul out the tripod and get it set up and think of somewhere to get a shot and everything. How do you all do it?

Here's one of me for today that my mother was kind enough to shoot. I'm getting ready to ride to the UW-Parkside anthropology department picnic that was today. The bandanna sits under my helmet and absorbs sweat.

I've ridden about 38 miles this week; I'm hoping to average more over the summer.

The picnic was fun. I saw a few people I knew better and a few people I don't know as well. I talked with folks about the GIS certificate I'm interested in and am further convinced that I really want to do it if I can make the scheduling work.

I am purging more tech parts as I make room for the bookcases that I just got from my ex today. (I almost wrote yesterday, then deleted it and typed today. My time sense has never been very good.)

I have gone through many cables. If my response to picking up a cable is "Why the hell do I own this?", "What the hell is this for?", or "Who the hell thought making this cable was a good idea?" (I found one of that last category so far: a five-inch-long USB extension cable), then it gets thrown out.

Does anyone on my friends list want a small stand-alone DVD player? It's a Cyberhome unit and I remember researching it once and finding that it can be regionless-hacked. I can't see every using it myself.

Does anyone I know semi-locally own a working Super Nintendo and/or Sega Genesis? I have some vintage games I want to put on Ebay and it would be really great if I could test them and certify that they work.
