stormdog: (Kira)
My left wrist is achy today, as it has been for the past day or so. I used to be skeptical of the correlation between joint pain and weather changes, but experiencing it first hand in the wrist I broke years ago makes it a bit more credible. I looked around Google to find out why, and the most likely explanation is changing of atmospheric pressure leading to minor physiological changes in the body related to the amount of cushioning around joints. Interesting stuff.

Today was pretty brutal. Temperatures and humidity were both really high. Even though I was mostly working with a surveyor's transit and stadia rod rather than doing any digging, it still left me feeling pretty drained by lunch. I took a nap on a table in the lab before going back out for another couple hours. I did some weed-whacking too, in the area where the professor is going to lay out some excavation units. It'll be fun to move from shovel tests and metal-detector holes to more significant and methodical work. That should start tomorrow.

Afterward, I'm going to drive down to Wheeling for DuckCon! I've been looking forward to a convention that won't be interrupted by major school work for quite a while! So, of course, it turns out that it will be interrupted by a free dental clinic in Lake Geneva that I'll be driving to *eaaaarly* Saturday morning. Once I get work done there, I'll drive back to Wheeling for the rest of the con. I hope I'm not missing anything really neat there; as usual, I haven't managed to look at the schedule of events yet. I'm a little frustrated that I can't just go to the con and have fun for a few days, but teeth are important.

I've made it through preliminary looks at several more grad schools. There's a woman at Wayne State University in Detroit who would be interesting to talk to. We'll see what comes together as I continue the process.

Anyway, here's a picture of me for today. I was trying to shoot a picture with the household dog, Wonka, in my lap. He usually loves jumping up there and sitting on me. This time, of course, he wouldn't cooperate, nor would my camera trip the shutter during the brief span he was actually there. I'll try another time.

Instead, here's Nebula, one of our two house cats. Her brother, Milky Way, is white with black spots.
