I received a notice a little while ago about having a due balance for my summer classes. I figured it would go away when my financial aid came through. (You know where this is going already, don't you?)

It was still there today so I went over to ask about it. To make a long story short, my financial aid only covered a portion of the cost of the summer semester. Probably because I declined the unsubsidized loan. I must have misread the amounts involved, which is atypical for me. I thought everything was covered by the subsidized loan. Instead, I owe approximately as much as I'd have owned if I'd just taken 3 credits and paid out of pocket.

This is really frustrating. It means I took a class that I didn't *really* need and which took (and is still taking) a chunk of my time away this summer and I really didn't get any benefit out of it beyond giving myself slightly more latitude in my class selection in my remaining span at school. If I'd had parsed everything correctly before, I'd have just done field school, paid for it out of pocket, and felt much more relaxed over the summer and had much more time to work on other things and and spend on myself.

I was pretty annoyed when I figured this out today, but it passed. These things happen I guess, and now I just have to deal with it. The time is already gone.

The extra $800, on the other hand, is kind of painful, since I also still need to order all my school books. I'm going to use tonight to catch up on money, before I dig into the draft I'm working on for the class I didn't need to take....

Current Mood: frustrated

Tuesdays are always long. But I got some good writing done on this paper.

Tomorrow I'm going to stay a few hours late at the archives, especially since I can drive, and go through tax rolls up to the point where the land we excavated on became part of Petrifying Springs Park. After that point, the ownership doesn't change. And beyond that, things were getting a little bit more developed I think, and records are much easier to come by. I think the majority of my report is going to focus on that span. Then I'm going to go home and offer advice to my brother as he goes through the process of registering for classes. I'm excited about going to school with him this coming year! And then, I'll probably work on this project more. Especially after my realization about finances today, I just want to get this thing done with!
