stormdog: (sleep)
My advisor is in the tenure review process right now. Yesterday, I wrote a letter for the tenure review board talking about my experiences with her both as a student and a TA/SI leader for her class this semester. I think she's a fantastic professor and an asset to Parkside, and I said so. I hope it helps!

On the way to school today, the attachment bolt for my kickstand worked loose. I had to stop and take my gloves off and try to fix it. I ended up just removing the whole thing to fix once I'm home. I had cold hands the rest of the trip!

I need to write an essay for the grant I'm applying for to make the upcoming trip to Chiapas, Mexico to work with the Zapatistas over Spring break more attainable for me, so I'm going to work on that between classes. If I don't end up taking a nap somewhere. I'm so tired today!

My birthday is coming up in November. I really don't expect even people who know me well to give me presents or anything. I'm not sure that I'll even have time for a party, with the AAA conference coming up so soon afterward. (The timing of that thing is kind of frustrating. It's right around my birthday, and two conventions that I'd like to attend. I guess that's the way it is. Maybe next year I'll be more able to get stuff done in advance and have time.)

Anyway, for people who really want to give me something for my birthday, I'd like to humbly suggest money toward that trip. It's a working excursion that I will receive some academic credit for. But more important than that to me, it's a chance to see a very different part of the world, and experience life ways that are very much outside my experience. As I told another student earlier this week, I've never regretted taking an opportunity to travel and broaden my experiences. I've never been outside the US and Canada, and I have no first-hand experience outside of a primarily capitalist, industrial, 'developed' culture and nation. This will be a chance to have that experience, if only for a week and a half, and I'm really excited about it.
