Oct. 29th, 2013 12:23 pmI'm so productive today!
Despite being short of sleep. I was up until 12:30 this morning writing the last quarter of my take-home history mid-term that I didn't finish earlier in the weekend. I didn't start on it earlier because Monday I ran my first SI session at the new later time (6:30 to 7:20). I got home late, and spent an hour or working on my bike.
And I still got up at 7:30 and biked to school. Yay! Plus, I've made an appointment to get tires on my car after work on Friday, as well as an appointment next week with the campus health center regarding an annoying medical issue I've been putting off dealing with.
I finally got through to the tire place in Kenosha today, but they told me they can't get the tires that their webpage gave me a quote on because they're only a licensee to the chain. I have to go to Oak Creek. I checked out the store in Oak Creek and found slightly nicer tires that were 15% off and thereby only $8 more per unit. So I'm going with those. Tires, mounting, and alignment should cost me around $420. Which is ok, but I really need to try selling my loft bed again, as well as finding a buyer for my Swift.
In fifteen minutes, my Map Use and Analysis class is meeting outside to work with compasses and GPS units. Fun! I can't seem to find the old GPS that Posi lent me; I would have brought it with.

The bike work was removing my bike wheels, putting on a new tire that I'd bought on an excursion between classes on Monday, and figuring out how the Presta valve on the new tube worked. (I definitely prefer it over Schraeder.) I went to the shop I usually go to, but they didn't have any slicks in my size. I drove down to the shop on 75th Street instead, and they had a number to choose from. I ended up going with a puncture-resistant tire with an even higher inflation rating (120PSI). It seemed to work out fine this morning. I'm sticking with the same front tire for the moment, since it's not worn nearly as badly as the back tire, but I may pick up a second of the same kind I now have on the back. The price was actually quite good at the local shop compared to online, and it seems pretty durable.
Though I still don't actually have *winter* bike tires yet....
I bought the replacement inner tube that I used while I was at Lisa's place in Uptown on Saturday. There's a shop right by her apartment that has more of a focus on bike commuters than recreation or racing. I really like the place, and I wish it was nearer. The shop in Kenosha is fine, but somehow Uptown Bikes just seems a little more my speed.
Anyway, since I had to removing my panniers and turn the whole bike upside down anwyay, I adjusted and tightened the fenders too. One of these days, I want to learn how to do more maintenance of things like wheels and derailleurs.
