A Respite

I got receptive responses to the two brief emails I sent faculty, so I'm feeling better at the moment. Better enough to be feeling extra grateful to people who've been supportive over the last few days, *especially* my partner, Danae. Without her very active and time-intensive care and advice, in the midst of her own grad school chaos, I fully believe I would have decided that I am not up to dealing with the rest of this semester and begun a move back to the Midwest. In fact, her help and encouragement has been a key part of this entire process for me for the last four-plus years. I could not hope for or dream of a more wonderful life-partner.

I should get to bed. I'm going to the counseling center first thing in the morning.

And just as I laid down to try to sleep, it appears that some emergency has caused people to start tearing up the street outside my apartment with a front end loader.
There is a giant dump truck parked directly in front of my building, and the other machine is running up and down the street and dumping big chunks of concrete into it. at 3:15 in the morning. Awesome.
