Wrist Update
Jan. 28th, 2016 01:15 pmI'd originally planned to walk to my surgery followup today. Even though I can't bike right now, I hate spending money on the bus for something I'd normally bike. It's the same four-mile walk I made to get my rental car, so I figured that there and back would make for a good, serious day's exercise. Yesterday afternoon though, I remembered that SU provides free medical transportation and decided that would be better than dealing with potential nasty weather. They were able to fit me in, and in fact had another person going to the same place at the same time. He also had a left wrist injury, and had the same name, first and last, as one of my brothers. Life is funny.
I *finally* have that splint and dressing off! They x-rayed me to see how things look, and I took pictures of the couple of stitches before they removed them. The nurse practitioner who examined me said that the screw they removed was just a little high out of the bone, and it was quite likely the cause of the pain I've been having for years. Especially when biking, when compression would have pushed it right up against another bone. I'm deeply hopeful that this means that, once I'm recovered, hundred mile bike trips will be a possibility. There was some damage that may (or may not I guess....) cause arthritis at some point in the future. I guess that's life. They also gave me two sheets of pictures of the inside of my wrist, showing some of the loose tissue that they cut out. She said the doctor likes his patients to have images. They're kind of cool, though I have no idea what I'm looking at.
I was hoping my internet would be working again when I got back home. It was out this morning, and was still out at noon when I got back. I called my ISP and ended up having to get dressed again and go exchange my modem. The onboard switch seems to have died. The new one has me up and running.
But before dealing with that, I took a shower. It was glorious.
I've been nibbling on items from the wonderful care package that Jo sent me earlier this month. Chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate! The dark chocolate crisps from Trader Joes were really good, and this chocolate granola is surprisingly good too. There were some chocolate wafer bars with labeling entirely in Yiddish I think, which were interesting. And there was a little box of chocolates in the shape of a heart with a cute black lab on it; that last really made me smile!
I'm getting reallllly sleepy. For the last few days, I've been getting a somewhat restless six hours of sleep, then napping in the afternoon or evening. Maybe some Civilization 5 can keep me up until dinner with
restoman tonight, and I can get a real night's sleep.
