Jun. 4th, 2017 08:39 pmInternment camps for Muslims are actually being talked about in mainstream media. I realize that this is in the context of Britain, and that a "Fox and Friends Weekend" host clarified that the Fox network believes such camps would be "reprehensible." Regardless, when this kind of talk is on national television, I worry about the number of people who believe in internment camps and similar as a viable solution.
This is absolutely unacceptable. There were internment camps for Jews and for Japanese-Americans in World War II, and they were atrocities. They were crimes against humanity. The bizarre state of our national government in general makes these kinds of specific brutalities seem like not merely far-fetched nightmares (or dreams) of political extremists. They also feel just the tiniest bit...possible. Maybe it's a vanishingly small possibility, but even that is far, far too much.
Don't even let yourself think that this kind of talk is normal. There must have been vast numbers of people rationalizing the atrocities of World War II, and countless others. Letting horrors be committed. Please don't give tacit consent for them to be committed again, where you are.
