Xenophobia
Sep. 27th, 2017 09:25 amThis is completely unjustified and, frankly, fascistic. C'mon people; is this what you want your country doing? I wish there was a way to get added to this list of immigrants. Just as I would add myself into a list of Muslims if the government made one, as a child of immigrants and as a citizen of a supposedly welcoming country, I would put myself onto this list.
This is fascism. I am not fucking kidding.

In trying to locate contact info for Immigration or the DHS, I found this list of contacts:
https://www.dhs.gov/department-white-pages
I took a guess at which one was most appropriate and sent an email to ICE Public Affairs at publicaffairs.iceofficeof@dhs.gov
If any of you have knowledge on better or more appropriate contacts, please let me know.

Subj: Immigration Status and Collection of Social Media Data
Body: Greetings!
In reference to
Document 2017-19365, Document Citation 82 FR 43556 , Page: 43556-43565
(10 pages)
(Apologies for any incorrect citations format; I'm new to this system)
I've become aware that new regulations on collection of individual's
immigration histories should now include, among other data, "social
media handles, aliases, associated identifiable information, and
search results."
As someone of immigrant origin, I believe that I should be included in
this collection of data and request that you begin collecting such
data, as well as as any other data typically collected on immigrants,
that is related to me.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.
Thanks you,
Christopher Allen

I'll let you know what, if anything, I hear back and what further actions I take. Please consider doing the same.
I'm reminded of the story of Henry David Thoreau being jailed for refusing to pay a poll tax he felt was immoral. A friend came to visit and asked "Henry, why are you in there?"
Thoreau responded "Ralph, why are you out there?"
This is fascism. I am not fucking kidding.
