Nov. 6th, 2018 12:45 pmI biked to work today, after not doing so yesterday. I've had hip and knee pain since before Thursday last week and it sucks a lot. I'm still trying to figure out whether it's the bike saddle height, or the saddle itself, or something totally unrelated. Maybe it's just that I'm heavier and older and sit down a lot at work. Today, I'm sitting on one of the "Bouy" seats we have that are like cylinders with rounded bottoms, and I'm rocking back and forth as I work in the hope that it helps.
I joined some more general-location groups related to polyamory and demisexuality a little while back, and have, for what's really been the first time in my life, been actively trying to be part of random light interactions. When I was in high school and first got on Usenet, I was so terrified of interacting with other people, even online, that I spent years basically lurking. I read about the many "geeks" who, with the advent of the internet, suddenly found ways to be social in places like newsgroups or MUSHs, and I was envious. Even talking to people through those mediums was too scary to handle and I missed out on so very much. It's still hard, but I've made a lot of progress.
I also need friends who are local. Friends who I can actually see on a weeknight. I adore some people who are further away, but I spend most weeks with no in-person social contact outside of my partner and people at work. So now I've requested to join a Chicago-specific poly group in the hope of eventually doing things in actual proximity to other humans! I'm thinking about other places that might be good to be able to talk online but with local people and maybe make some more friends.
