I don't think I ever *really* listened to some of the tracks on Rubber Soul until the last few days. I'm mad at the Beatles for creating a song as evocatively beautiful on the surface as Norwegian Wood and then making it about an illicit affair and burning down someone's home as an act of revenge. Goddamit.

At the shelter last night, I was like, screw you John Lennon; I'm making up my own lyrics.

"I once had a dog,
Or should I say,
That dog had me.

I loved him so much,
I petted him,
He snuggled me..."

This morning has been special. Details about that below.

But I get to see my boyfriend tonight and hear all about his adventures away! I've really missed him. *bounces*

The shifting issue on Longing was easily fixed and I rode to work. Halfway there, my back wheel got hungry and ate the bungee cord cargo net I had on the rack. I spent fifteen minutes trying to cut the cords and hooks out of the spokes with a little pair of side-cutting pliers, then gave up and got a bus. Now I'm worried my brand-new wheel has damage because the gears are no longer perfectly parallel to the axle.

My right ankle has popped for years after a bike incident, but it doesn't really pain me. My left one, on the other hand, has been popping too since I hurt it running after a train a few weeks ago and it *does* cause pain. The dog walking yesterday must have aggravated it 'cause today something feels a little out of place and hurty, and hurts if I move it too much. Why aren't these parts more easily serviceable? There's a design issue here.

I hesitate to see doctors about these things. In my experience so far, I pay copays for an x-ray and possibly an MRI, and have nothing to show for it in the end other than several hundred dollars of expenses.

When I first looked at this set and saw three different compasses, I felt like I was at a formal dinner setting and trying to figure out why I had four forks. But these were too beautiful not to buy for $15. After searching, I figured out the thumbscrew-adjustable nibs that look like sharp little bird beaks are basically dip-pen nibs. Maybe I'll even try them with ink! A Facebook friend who knows about pens says I can use India Ink or regular fountain pen ink with them.

A bike-savvy coworker just helped me get the rest of the shredded bungee cords and metal hooks out of my wheel. It all seems fine now. I'm so grateful!

I wish I could just give people spontaneous hugs sometimes!
